The Celtic support has been reacting to the Bhoys’ 3-1 over a very determined and difficult Aberdeen side this afternoon in the Scottish Premiership. The Hoops travelled to Pittodrie in just their second game of the league season after overcoming Ross County last week at Celtic Park 4-2 on Flag Day.
Last week gave us all an insight into the good things that Brendan Rodgers is trying to implement to the side once again on his return to Paradise, but also showed us glimpses of how poorly we can be in transition and vulnerable from a defensive perspective – especially set-pieces. County got two goals when they really should have came away with none and it has put the supporters on alert.
Today we saw pretty much the same, except we managed to beat a tricky Dons side away from home, despite not playing our best again. There’s no doubting however, that there will be a bedding in period in the aftermath of playing the same way for the past couple of years. A new manager has come in and with him, new ideas on how the game should be played. What we’re seeing is adjustment to that playing style being refined weekly.
Most supporters were ubiquitous in their assessment of the game and reckon it is a good win at a difficult place this early in the season. Although, that has been caveated by the need for more first-team ready players to come in and elevate the squad for the multiple challenges we face this year.
Here’s some of the reaction:
Job done we are a work in progress real quality needed in the next few weeks HH

3 points taken at a difficult away ground so early in the season will do me just fine.
We look a threat going forward, but careless when in possession in front of our own goal.
Aberdeen had 2 shots on goal the whole game , Hart dealt well with the cross balls.— Highland__Paddy (@Highland__paddy) August 13, 2023
Excellent result to win at Pittodrie while not being anywhere near our best. It was a bit frantic in places. But we played some decent stuff, particularly at the start of the 2nd half.
Still room for improvement. And new players. It’ll take time to adjust back from AP to BR.

It’s v early day but that’s a BIG win today. 6 points out of 6 with for large parts a team missing so many key players from last season. That’s impressive. Now….time for Nicholson and the board to bring in the FIRST TEAM ready players we clearly need & Rodgers has highlighted…

Of course our defensive set up needs to be sorted out still and rather quickly now.
Wasn’t sure weather Rodgers would go for a 3 or 4 at the back?
Looks like he is going to stick with a 4, which calls into question about how good are our full backs with trying to play out from the back?
Certainly not good enough in tight areas currently, which will have huge impact upon our midfield, especially if we continue to give away cheap possession.
Far to much long ball used today, which is as good as giving possession away imo.
Certainly nowhere good enough in these areas, especially with CL in mind, and hopefully gets resolved very quickly.
A new LB desperately required along with the CB (incoming) if we’re to stick with a back 4, and hopefully AJ isn’t to far away from returning either.
