Neil Lennon believes that Celtic will spend more money before the end of the summer transfer window. The Hoops have already banked a record-breaking £27 million for Portuguese winger Jota, whilst Carl Starfelt has departed for La Liga too. Bringing in some new, younger faces, the supporters have been clamouring for more proven quality to arrive at the club.
It’s being widely reported in the mainstream media that Brendan Rodgers has identified three key areas before the closing of the window, which includes a goalkeeper, left-back and left-winger. With many expecting some of that Jota money to be reinvested, attention has turned to the recruitment team at Parkhead and who they have in the crosshairs at present.
Gustaf Lagerbielke is supposed to be the man to come in and replace Sweden international, Carl Starfelt, whilst rumours have surfaced about possible interest in French U21 left-back, Quentin Merlin; although this has been contested in the media today who claim that senior sources at Celtic Park have told them he is not on the radar currently.
Despite this, Celtic are looking to add more quality to the squad and starting XI, and Lennon reckons they will splash the cash again before the month is out. Now a resident pundit on PLZ Soccer, the ex-Celtic midfielder and manager said: “I do think that they’ll spend a bit of money between now and the end of August.”
Neil Lennon has been in the position of trying to get quality additions through the door and will understand the difficulty in finding the right player at times. There is an expectancy from fans to sign players continually, but for the club to improve, it has to be the correct players with enough quality to justify more bodies being brought through the door.
The club should manage to get more deals done and one would imagine they might be waiting to see who’s available perhaps in England. Rodgers had been linked with some of his former players at Leicester City and he may just be hoping certain players become available the closer we get to the window shutting. Who knows, we could be in for a pleasant surprise by the time the first Glasgow Derby match rolls around.
