Brendan Rodgers has opened up on his frustrations regarding the current injury crisis that has plagued the Scottish Champions in the early stages of this campaign. Celtic exited the League Cup at Rugby Park after a fairly dire display but in the aftermath it emerged that Maik Nawrocki had picked up a knock and Cameron Carter-Vickers was facing a substantial spell out.
Speaking to Celtic TV, Rodgers said that he hopes that players in the squad can step up in the wake of these absences.
“Well, yeah, it’s very frustrating. Obviously, you want to have your best players available and clearly that’s not the case for us. But, listen, you have to get on with it.
“It’s just been the nature of it over the course of preseason, but we just have to deal with it. And, like I said, we get some lots of capable players in the squad and I’m sure they’ll step up.”
Stephen Welsh, Oh, Alistair Johnston, Mikey Johnston and Reo Hatate were also unavailable through injury at the weekend. Despite the comments about players stepping up, it is clear reinforcements are required.
Rodgers made a couple of comments about Celtic requiring quality in the remaining days of the transfer window. The manager will want to strengthen before the end of the window ahead of the Champions League Group Stages.
