Celtic given mouth-watering Champions League draw

Celtic have been drawn in Group E of the Champions League and will face Dutch Champions Feyenoord, Spanish side Atletico Madrid and Italian side Lazio and of course the Hoops have so much history with all three sides in what is a mouth-watering draw and one that Celtic will have to be at our very best to progress beyond the group stages to make the knock-out rounds after Christmas.

Celtic lost the 1970 European Cup final in Milan to Feyenoord in what was one of the most painful experiences of them all for the Celtic support. Atletico Madrid were an absolute disgrace in their performances against Celtic in the early 1970s but the sides have met several times since those dark days for football and they will be a tough opponent, much more of a football team these days.

Ntcham Scores vs Lazio

And our recent encounters with Lazio in the the Europa League will live long in the memory with late winners in both games in Glasgow and Rome – the first time Celtic have every won a competitive match on Italian soil.

So it Dutch, Spanish and Italian opposition for Celtic in the Champions League. Fixtures to be confirmed but it looks like there will be brilliant games of football to enjoy and maybe this is the year that Celtic can make an impact. You can only dream.
