The late, great David Potter’s Celtic Diary came to an end a few days ago with the season ending and with little or no Celtic games in June, other than last season’s Scottish Cup Final. Maybe try a different type of diary looking at a few things being discussed by Celtic Supporters on each day. Here’s a flavour of what we’re thinking of doing…
IRISH PRESS THIS MORNING
Posted by @bayerninmunchen gives a different take on two of the Ireland squad who may be coming to Celtic in the summer. Idah and Kelleher updates seem just a little more positive across the water do they not?
THE EMOTION AND RESPECT IN FOOTBALL – RIGHT THERE
Matt McGlone makes this observation on this clip for TNT Sports after Real Madrid won their 15th Champions League (European Cup in old money) trophy to narrow the gap on the self-proclaimed Most Successful Club in the World. If you were a Real Madrid supporter you might be asking how many do we need to win to catch them up? We were talking about this last night and maybe a few of you were too!

Real Madrid win their 15th European Cup but still on that unforgiving quest to be crowned “World’s Most Successful Club”

41 YEARS ON, ABERDEEN ARE STILL THE LAST TEAM TO BEAT REAL MADRID IN A EUROPEAN FINAL
’41 years on, Aberdeen are still the last team to beat Real Madrid in a European Final’, The Herald notes. We were talking about this last night too as we watched the final. My boy had his pal round, he is an Aberdeen fan, so I was telling them about Jock Stein’s role in helping Alex Ferguson outfox Real Madrid in the 1983 Cup Winners Cup Final. The boy said he wanted Real Madrid to win to protect Aberdeen’s record while the rest of us were supporting Dortmund.

MOOY AND BENJAMIN SIEGIST IN AUSTRALIA
Mooy and Benjamin Siegrist in Australia, @Celtic67Fins72 posted. Siegrist was always a stand-out in his Dundee United days but for whatever reason (perhaps contractual?) he seldom made the match day squads under Brendan Rodgers. Maybe it’s just that he prefers Scott Bain, who to me doesn’t fit the profile of a Celtic goalkeeper, he’s not tall enough for starters.
I was up at Lennoxtown for a media conference last month and while sitting in reception three players came through the door from the dressing room and headed upstairs. Matt O’Riley, Maik Nawrocki and Ben Siegrist were the players and the goalkeeper was considerably taller than the other two and built like a tank.
Ben’s girlfriend lives in Australia so perhaps he’ll move there in the summer? Here he is with Aaron Mooy, who seems to be loving life back home in Oz.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY YOUNG MAN
@BarbaraMcMahon8 is one of the nicest folk you could possibly meet and it helps that she’s Celtic daft! Here’s a lovely wee video she’s shared from Éire Go Brách CSC who stated: “Young Newry lad’s 18th birthday. He’s a big Celtic fan. Just happens to be in the same restaurant as these lads… and they made it pretty special”. This is how it feels…

More tomorrow, we’ll see if it’s popular and if so will make it a daily feature on The Celtic Star. Let us know what you think…
