Former Celtic midfielder Stuart Armstrong has been released by Southampton as his contract with the newly promoted EPL side expires this month, leaving him a free agent.
Armstrong along with team mate and pal Gary McKay Stephen was signed by Ronny Delia from Dundee United in 2015. Stuart served the hoops well in a three year stint winning eight honours in the process before moving down south to try his luck in the EPL with Southampton.
He would spend six years in the south coast with the Saints becoming a crowd favourite as he played 214 games scoring 25 goals.
Rumours unsurprisingly have been circulating that Stuart could be heading back to Glasgow for a second spell with Celtic. It’s only rumours, or just suggestions, but in my view, we could do a lot worse than snap up a player of Stuart’s calibre on a free transfer.
Brendan admires Stuart as a player and a person, and I’m certain that the feelings mutual, so such a move shouldn’t be ruled out.
He may be 32, but he has a wealth of experience and he looks after himself. A player of his stature would bring stability as well as ability to our midfield. As mentioned in Celtic Shorts last night, it would be similar to Aaron Mooy the season before last. Could we be hearing that catchy old song ‘his hair is fine he scored belters all the time’ once again? I wouldn’t rule it out!
Just an Ordinary Bhoy

No brainer! Sign him
Should we not be signing players of a younger age that can help us progress in europe. no disrespect to mr Armstrong
How can you suggest that Hayes is a ‘Jobs for the boys’ situation then, five minutes later, canvass for Armstrong to return. Both would be retrograde steps, its new talent we need, surely.
