BBC reporter tells Celtic ‘to get on with it’ to sell Matt O’Riley to Southampton

Celtic star Matt O’Riley would be “happy” to join Southampton, says BBC Radio’s Adam Blackmore…

“O’Riley is happy to come to Saints and I think Celtic need to get on with it,” Blackmore said.

The comment comes after Brighton were reported to be preparing a bid worth over £25m for the midfielder. They seem to be serious about securing him for the upcoming Premier League season, but that doesn’t mean that other clubs are disheartened.

Southampton are rumoured to still be in talks with Celtic over a possible deal, with Atalanta ready to come back after having several bids rejected so far.

Chelsea were also rumoured to be in the race to sign the Dane as a replacement for Conor Gallagher, but are now said to have pulled out, while West Ham and Leicester City have also been credited with an interest in the Celtic star.

O’Riley impressed clubs all over the world after his impressive campaign under Brendan Rodgers last season. With 19 goals and 17 assists in all competitions, it came as no surprise that the Scottish champions were reluctant to let him go, demanding a record-breaking fee for his services.

The Dane is contracted to the Celts until 2027, leaving them in the perfect position to hold out for a £25m+ bid.

Southampton may look to match Brighton as they reportedly begin their search for a creative midfielder. It is said that the manager believes O’Riley could be the final piece in the Southampton puzzle as they return to the Premier League.

So now all that’s left is to see if Celtic will “get on with it”…

Meanwhile, Celtic turn their attention to a 16-year-old wonderkid wanted by Manchester City.

  1. Who is this clown Blackmore aye right Celtic need to get this done naw we don’t, shut the front door this guy is a pure Idiot.

  2. Already seen your typical English attitude at work within this transfer window to date?
Just because Oreily plays with ourselves within the SPFL, means that his value shouldn’t be as high as we are claiming?
Yet because we are still a CL team, means that clubs like Norwich are allowed to overprice a player such as idah?
Seems Rodgers remains very interested within the English market where he possibly has the best knowledge of?
Wouldn’t be one, I personally would be able to deal within, with such a stinking attitude towards ourselves, because we are regarded as a Scottish club?
Also believe Rodgers is playing the waiting game currently, especially as EPL teams are currently finalising there own squads for the season ahead?
Weather such an approach, is yet to be seen how beneficial it could be for ourselves still?
But bringing in Philips, last season, would only confirm to me, that this English market isn’t as great as the bastards try to make out it is either imo?

  3. Blackmore has no idea what he is talking about. Not everyone is fascinated by the filthy excess of money poured into the English game. Were it not for that, it would not attract good players.
This is his talking through the hole in his arse. Typical English sense of superiority. What would they do without the SKY noney?
We do not need to get on with it. We will do what we want and what is best for our club and also for Matt O’Reilly. I am sure Matt will know what he wants himself.
