The Celtic supporters showed their solidarity with the immigrants of this country by displaying a banner ahead of yesterday’s clash with Hibs at Easter Road.
And they reminded the Celtic and Hibernian Supporters at the match or watching television of their own roots.
This banner also tells immigrants who are currently facing a backlash from the knuckle draggers in our society, that they have friends on these shores. We’ve all seen the shameful scenes around England and also in Belfast which every man woman and child who arrived on these shores has been the subject of inexcusable abuse from the uneducated morons of this world.
I’m proud to say that I fully welcome these immigrants to our community and both oppose anyone who is against their presence in our country. I’m even more prouder that our supporters displayed this banner in support of our fellow immigrants and fellow human beings. That message at Easter Road was of course a timely reminder that we were indeed created by immigrants.
Yes we are of course a club who were created by immigrants, and more importantly a club open to all, and don’t you ever forget it.
Any Celtic – or indeed Hibernian supporter – who doesn’t feel a sense of pride when it comes to supporting the immigrants of this country should perhaps read more about our own club’s history and the struggle that many of our ancestors went through after having to leave Ireland on coffin ships in order to escape the forced hunger in their homeland.
If you know your history…

Celtic were formed in the first instance to help the poor in Glasgow……they weren’t “created” by immigrants
Correct.
But the poor people they were helping were mainly Irish immigrants. Great banner, great fans.
You don’t know your history.
My Irish grandfather was not an immigrant. He moved from one part of what was then the Sovereign State of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland (1801 to 1922) to another part of it. The Irish, during that time, were not, therefore, immigrants to this country. They were citizens of the United Kingdom.
Lest you forget.
