Liam Shaw quietly left Celtic in the summer after his contract was paid up, leaving the midfielder as a free agent. Does this help explain the James McCarthy mystery?
Today we learn that he’s signed a deal with Charlie Adam down at Fleetwood Town until the end of this season as Shaw looks to kick-start his career at the English League Two side, formerly managed by Scott Brown.
The 23-year-old joined the Hoops in 2020 but made just two senior appearances for the club and was deemed surplus to requirements by Brendan Rodgers.
He signed a four-year deal with Celtic in 2021 but failed to make an impact under Ange Postecoglou or Brendan Rodgers. Shaw had loan spells at Motherwell, Morecambe and Wigan Athletic before returning to Celtic.
He now looks to get his playing career back on track and is set to make his debut tomorrow at away to Bromley.
The other point worth noting in this is that Celtic didn’t released details of Shaw leaving Celtic and that could also be the situation with James McCarthy who has been removed from the official Celtic FC website’s list of current players but no official announcement was made despite numerous stories appearing via fan media, including The Celtic Star.
We’ll need to clarify this with Brendan at a media conference…

The very best of luck to Liam Shaw down at Fleetwood Town.
Thankfully during the summer we eventually started to tidy up, just how much much money was being wasted upon wages, to players that no longer had anything to offer to ourselves?
The money was available to buy up some of these contracts, and despite the financial hit, still believe that it needed to be done for ourselves?
Can accept that not every signing we are going to make, will be a massive hit for ourselves?
But don’t believe that stock piling players and paying out wages, to get nothing in return is good footballing business either for ourselves?
On the bigger picture, it should allow ourselves to be able to offer bigger wages in return to the bigger signings, we are hoping to attract more so going forward?
May involve bigger risks taken, especially if we get to many barkas and ajeti signings, so down to the recruitment side of the club to get things working better for the future?
