Atalanta 0-0 Celtic – A hard earned point, credit to Brendan and the players

A hard earned point. Credit to Brendan and the players…

Nobody saw that one coming. If there was ever a sure fire bet for both sides to score then tonight at the Gewiss Stadium was a dead cert, but Celtic held their nerve and kept out the serious firepower of the Serie A side who also happen to be Europa League holders.

Every player played their part. Particularly the centre back pairing of Liam Scales and Auston Trusty who were rocks at the back. We all feared the worst after the defensive calamity against Aberdeen at the weekend, but credit to both players who put it behind them and kept the Italians at bay for the entire 90 plus minutes.

Alistair Johnston and Alex Valle were also on top of their game, as was Kasper Schmeichel as we stifled the Italians, who are clearly an excellent team.

Adam Idah played the part as the lone striker brilliantly, with Daizen Maeda and Nicolas Kuhn running themselves into the ground on the flanks. It’s no wonder all three were substituted as the game entered the latter stages.

The midfield were also more composed and focused than they have been in recent European games, and that played its part in us getting a valuable point.

Big credit also has to go Brendan Rodgers of course who had the players fine tuned tonight, especially with the Dortmund result still hanging around their necks. It showed top class management, and proved that Brendan is very much not just an elite manager but OUR elite manager.
