Celtic today ‘upped the ante’ in the Greg Taylor stand-off by making the 27 year-old contract rebel an offer that they hope he can’t refuse…

Taylor not currently among top earners at Celtic
Greg Taylor has never been among the top earners at the club and in comparison to his status in the team, his leadership in the dressing room and his contribution on the pitch he is perhaps the most undervalued player at the club and it’s fair to say that he probably knows it.
Yet Brendan Rodgers recently told us that the stand-off on any new contract with the club was NOT financial and appears to be related to Kieran Tierney’s return to the club with Greg Taylor less than thrilled at mirroring the Anthony Ralston back-up role for Alistair Johnston.

Greg married Laura last summer and they recently became parents
Greg Taylor got married last summer to his childhood sweetheart Laura and the couple recently had their first child, who made her debut appearance at Celtic Park on Saturday in the 5-1 win over Kilmarnock. It was an emotional day for the Taylor family which was made extra-special with Greg being named Man of the Match.
Kieran Tierney as everyone knows has not had his troubles to seek throughout his career and Brendan Rodgers knows that two left backs are needed and is prepared to accept that the load will be shared. Taylor too could also be used in midfield on occasion or KT could play as a left-sided central defender especially against team playing a low block. This would allow Taylor to play his inverted role this is so effective for Celtic.

Brendan Rodgers reckoned Greg was going leave
Last month Brendan Rodgers seemed to be preparing supporters for the worst in this saga as he flipped towards an inevitable exit for Taylor as he selected loan signing Jeffrey Schlupp ahead of the Celtic stalwart.
“I’ve been in this position so many times, and I can read situations,” Brendan said. “It’s probably more likely now that Greg will move on than stay, which is a big shame for me because I love him as a person, and I love his game because it’s suited to how we work.
“It’s not financial, but I respect his position because he wants to feel he’ll play every week”
“It’s not financial, but I respect his position because he wants to feel he’ll play every week. Whoever is in next year with Kieran will still play a lot of games, but my feeling is that Greg may well move on.

“I know between now and the end of the season, he’ll give his all. Greg has had a few years in the position and has been superb. He’ll also get more games this season.”
Greg Taylor has made 210 appearances for Celtic and won ten major honours
Taylor has made 210 appearances for Celtic since joining on the club from Kilmarnock on in August 2019. He has won 10 major honours so far with another Scottish Premiership and perhaps a Scottish Cup medal to come before the end of the campaign. He has also represented Scotland on 14 occasions and has been an unused substitute so many times.
Scott Burns at Daily Record, who has a decent insight regarding agents and transfer dealings as well contacts at clubs reported this afternoon that Celtic have now made a significant new offer on a three year contract.

Taylor could be a future Celtic captain a cold play an important role a few years down the line when the likes of Callum McGregor and James Forrest call it a day. So too could Kieran Tierney.
Hopefully the latest move will see pen being put to paper
Hopefully this new move by Celtic can convince Greg Taylor to stay. There’s certainly at the club, he knows what is expected and he is comfortably in his surroundings having the support of the manager, his teammates and the support. Just ask Kyogo if that is always available when you make a move.
