Championship side make move for Jeffrey Schlupp after Celtic exit

EFL Championship side West Brom are closing in on a deal to sign Jeffrey Schlupp. The 32-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan with Celtic but is available on a free transfer having left Crystal Palace at the end of the season.

As reported by Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke, West Brom have stepped up their interest in Schlupp ahead of the new season.

Ryan Mason will look to draw upon the experience and quality of Schlupp as he enters his first managerial role.

Schlupp made 18 appearances for Celtic as Brendan Rodgers’ side retained the Premiership title. The Ghanaian international competed with Greg Taylor for the first choice role at left back.

Celtic were reportedly considering a deal to sign the player but with Kieran Tierney returning, it always appeared unlikely. Schlupp was reportedly on £70k a week at Palace, albeit in the Premier League, but he would likely be looking for a hefty pay day in what is due to be his last big contract.

Celtic utilised Hayato Inamura at left back in the pre-season friendly win over Cork City but it remains to be seen whether he is utilised as deputy to KT moving forward this season.

  1. All the best to Jeff. He did a good job for us, came in when we needed him and did what we asked him. Seems like a good guy too.

    Take care Mr Schlupp.
