Report: Daizen Maeda stalling on Celtic extension amid Premier League interest

Celtic attacker Daizen Maeda is reportedly stalling on talks over a new deal as interest from the Premier League grows. The Scottish Champions need to strengthen in the transfer window and losing Maeda will be a massive blow.

A report from Football Insider states that while Maeda is happy to remain at Celtic, talks have been paused as the player is willing to consider any offers to move on.

Celtic have been keen to extend the 27-year-old’s stay in Glasgow. Reports had suggested that talks were progressing well but since then, there hasn’t been any update. Brentford and Tottenham have reportedly taken an interest in the pacey forward.

The attacker is attracting interest due to his scintillating goalscoring form last campaign. Maeda moved through the middle after Kyogo left for Rennes and the player didn’t look back. Maeda scored 33 goals and assisted 12 times in 51 appearances as Celtic retained the Scottish Premiership while regaining the Premier Sports Cup, being rewarded with the Player of the Year Award, Players’ Player of the Year, PFA Scotland Player of the Year as well as the SFWA Player of the Year.

Celtic need to strengthen in attack and losing Maeda would be a blow to the squad given the amount of goals that have already left the team from Nicolas Kühn and Kyogo. Brendan is eager to add to his squad in the goal scoring department and sanctioning a move for the prolific attacker will not make things easier for his scouting team.

Plan A: sell him for 40mill after we qualify for the CL and we make 80 mill

Plan B: If we don’t get in the CL, then sell him for the 40mill we would have got if we qualified

    Win-win
