Today Celtic can put Hampden heartache behind us with a win at Pittodrie
Our last encounter with Aberdeen is a memory we wish to rid our minds of, and that of course was the Scottish cup final defeat at Hampden back in May. Can’t win them all I suppose but games of football can be lost and it just wasn’t Celtic’s day in the Scottish Cup final. Given our Hampden record under Brendan Rodgers and Callum McGregor we certainly can have no complaints. Congratulations once again to Aberdeen but after today we can move on from that narrative with a win in the North East.

The Dons just about deserved their success on the day and we can’t begrudge them that, but now we’ve got the chance to make some amends by beating them on their own patch this afternoon.
The last time we faced Aberdeen at Pittodrie is a more pleasant memory than that fateful day in Mount Florida as we dismantled Jimmy Thelin’s team in a one sided showing in what was billed as a pre-cup final audition, as we won a canter by five goals to one with a Celtic side that included many squad members who had seen little match -time during the season.

Much has been made recently of our lack of options up top, with the likes of Johnny Kenny and Yang our only available options, whilst Adam Idah is hardly inspiring confidence in the support as the main centre forward, but all the mentioned players were pivotal in that victory back in May with all three finding the net in our thumping victory.
Maik Nawrocki – who has now left Celtic – and Luke McCowan also got on the scoresheet as we humbled the Dons on their own patch with what you could have described as very much a second string side, so that should give us great confidence heading into what is expected to be a tough fixture so early in the campaign.

It will be a Celtic side closer to the one that lost to Aberdeen at Hampden – without Greg Taylor and Nicolas Kühn of course as both have moved on since the Scottish Cup Final.
Expect those other Celts who were so disappointed at Hampden to raise their game today, pick up the three points and open up a four point lead over theRangers – who just about managed a draw against Dundee at Ibrox yesterday thanks to a stoppage time Tav Pen spot kick.

In midweek that were world-beaters now they’re back where they were last weekend with that bloke for theRangers Rabble last night apparently calling for their new manager’s head, two games in – it didn’t take long did it?
Meanwhile the Celtic away support will be preparing for the long journey to the North East, safe travels and enjoy your afternoon folks.
