Reports In Leicester Link Benkovic To Celtic With Ajer Going The Other Way

After rumours circulated on social media, more fuel was thrown on to the speculative fire as Leicestershire Live reported on a “Deal of the Century.”

The midlands based publication suggested that Brendan Rodgers is keen to renew his professional relationship with Ajer, who became a regular first team player during his time at Celtic. In order to prize the Norwegian away from Glasgow, Leicester are believed to be willing to allow Filip Benkovic to go the other way, as well as offering a cash sum.

Benkovic previously enjoyed a successful loan spell at Celtic under Rodgers, however, since returning to his parent club he has failed to make his mark, even after Rodgers became the Foxes’ manager. The Croatian international, who was signed for upwards of £13m in 2018, spent last season on loan at Bristol City. A hit with the Celtic support, he would be welcomed back to Paradise with open arms, whilst Ajer would be enabled to exit the club which he may well desire if reports from his agent are to be believed.

Some Celtic fans have voiced concern over the injury record of Benkovic and that the cash sum has not been disclosed. However, most supporters seem in favour of a cash plus Benkovic deal for Ajer’s departure, despite the Norwegian being a popular and talented player for the Hoops.

It will be interesting to see how this potential deal transpires.
