MLS side to offer new deal to Celtic target

HOUSTON DYNAMO have offered a new deal to Honduran Alberth Elis as the winger looks for a move to Europe with his contract having ended with the MLS club. Elis, who was linked with Celtic last month, has already said that he has ambitions to play in Europe but Houston have offered the 24-year-old a new deal in the hope of keeping him stateside.

As reported by the Scottish Sun, the Dynamo sporting director, Matt Jordan said that they would like the Honduran internationalist to remain with the MLS outfit but are aware that he is considering offers from European clubs.

“We want him to stay, but he has offers from Europe.

“Alberth means a lot to this club and we see him as part of the long-term vision here.”

With 42-caps to his name, Elis would have no trouble getting a visa in order to sign for Celtic and as the club had reportedly offered £3m from him previously, he would be a steal with his deal expiring this year. In 110 career appearances, Elis has 34 goals and 25 assists which is a very good return for a winger.

“There are teams that have been watching me and I think that we will make a decision soon.

“But I have never hidden my ambitions of playing in Europe one day.”

Celtic have fared well signing Honduran internationalists with Emilio Izaguirre signing back in 2010 and spending eight years with the Scottish Champions. Izaguirre has told the club about the attacker should they consider a move for him.

“Celtic have asked me about a few players from Honduras.

“They’ve asked me several times about Elis. Who knows? Maybe one day they will sign players from Honduras like me.”

Whether Elis remains a target for the Scottish Champions with Elyounoussi rejoining on a season long loan, remains to be seen but should he be available and Celtic see a role for him at the club, a move could transpire.
