“The league is gone” and “Not a chance” – Pundit delivers damning verdict on Celtic’s title hopes after Rangers defeat

There may have been some debate about Celtic facing a “must-win” game against Rangers this afternoon, but there was no doubt that they couldn’t afford to lose it.

The defeat is all the more gutting when you consider that Neil Lennon made some big calls and Celtic completely dominated the game, but it was another defensive lapse that cost them and the title has to be gone now.

Celtic aren’t guaranteed to win all three games in hand and even if they did there would still be a ten point gap at the top of the table, so it’s hard to see how they can claw this one back.

They did do enough today to suggest that there’s little to be scared of when it comes to facing the Rangers and perhaps that will give other teams some hope when they play them, but you also worry about Celtic actually winning every game they play.

Andy Walker spoke about the title during his commentary for Sky Sports, and it was a damning verdict for Neil Lennon’s hopes.

He admitted that “the league is gone” and that there was “not a chance” they would manage to overturn the deficit, so it’s tough to take many positives out of the situation.

They do need to focus on winning the games in hand and perhaps some signings in January could inspire Celtic to go on a phenomenal run, but even that might not be enough at this point.

  1. The league was gone months ago, its about time people admit it, things should have been changed after our atrocious performances at the start of the season in the league and Europe. The club left it to late therfore the blame lies with the board and management. Directors, management, coaches and scouts need to go.
