Celtic are close to receiving a windfall as Moussa Dembele nears the Lyon door with West Ham joining Atletico Madrid in the hunt for the former Celtic striker. This could be good news for the Scottish Champions as it would result in a sell-on clause being activated, giving Celtic funds.
Caught Offside (via RMC) are reporting that David Moyes is considering a move for the French striker having agreed to sell Sebastian Haller to Ajax earlier today. However, the Hammers face competition for Dembele with Diego Simone’s Atletico eyeing up the former Fulham kid.
The 24-year-old moved to Lyon in 2018 and has been a success but since the French side have failed to qualify for Europe this season, Dembele was linked with a number of clubs. However, no move was forthcoming for the player that tormented Manchester City in the Champions League Quarter Finals and as a result, West Ham might be a move that Dembele is unwilling to make.
In the 9IAR celebrations earlier this year, Dembele called Celtic ‘the greatest club in the world’. Dembele was a fan favourite instantly with a hat-trick against Rangers at Celtic Park. He scored 51 goals in 94 appearances across the two seasons, winning six trophies during his trophy-laden spell in Glasgow.
Celtic are believed to have a 15% sell-on fee for Dembele, which would rake in a multi-million windfall as it would be taken off of Lyon’s profit of the deal. A potential multi-million windfall would be perfect for Celtic at the moment given the strain that COVID-19 has put on Scottish football. It also would allow the club to position themselves better when the inevitable interest for our star players come.
