Ryan Christie backs Ange for long-term success at Celtic

Ryan Christie has thrown his weight behind new Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou, by assuring the Celtic Support that the former Australia manager will get better and better the longer he stays at Celtic Park. Christie left Paradise at the end of the last transfer window and spent the whole summer working under the tutelage of the man who brought the Parkhead faithful ‘Angeball’.

Having been privy to the inner workings and machinations of the big man, Christie says that he was left impressed by Ange and his methods. Speaking to the Scottish Sun, he said: “Yes, definitely. Before I left I was able to get a wee taste of Ange’s training. I tried to be quite vocal about how much I enjoyed it and how good he was. The longer he stays in the job, the more successful Celtic will be.”

“They have had some good results and performances, and some good results in Europe as well, to keep them in the hunt. I’m keeping an eye out for all the boys I am pally with up the road and hoping they do well.”

The former player and Scotland international also stated that Ange Postecoglou is the man to get the best out of emerging talent, David Turnbull. He added: “Dave has been quality ever since he stepped into the Celtic side. He is now one of the first names on the team sheet, which is a credit to him. When he came into the squad last season, we were struggling a bit and he seemed to be the only shining light. I am buzzing for him. With the injury setback he had earlier in his career, he has done so well to bounce back and show his talent.”

It’s unfortunate that Ryan Christie chose to leave when he did, as Angeball looked like a perfect fit for his skillset and boundless amounts of energy. Having an insider reveal the methods of everyday workings under the new gaffer is interesting to hear. The fact that Christie was so impressed with Ange after Lennyball had left the team bereft of confidence and structure is telling.

There is also the added bonus of knowing that Ange will take care of and develop major talents already at the club who need polishing up. David Turnbull is one such player. David was immense when he broke onto the scene last year, being as Christie says ‘the only shining light’ of an otherwise drab and bleak campaign. The effect of Ange on this football club is palpable and can be seen on the smiles of the players’ faces and the freedom they play with on the park.

Long may it continue.

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
