Transfer Latest: Celtic sign former Barcelona keeper Pamela Tajonar from Villarreal

Celtic FC this afternoon confirmed the signing of Mexican international goalkeeper Pamela Tajonar from Villarreal subject to international clearance. Tajonar made her debut in the 2-0 win over Partick Thistle in the SWPL1 match at Petershill Park, playing for the Scottish Cup and League Cup holders as a trialist, as the player waits on her visa being approved.

Celtic FC Women manager confirmed at his media conference this afternoon that the Mexican keeper would start on Sunday when Startans are the visitors to Excelsior Stadium in Airdrie as Rachael Johnstone is going to be out for a few more weeks. Fran described her injury as nothing too serious but clearly no chances will be taken, particular with Chloe Logan also sidelined with a longer term knee injury.

Fran Alonso told The Celtic Star at today’s media conference that the signing of Pamela Tajonar as a third goalkeeper at the club will conclude his transfer window business for this summer with the Celtic manager stating that he’s delighted with the signings, giving the team cover in every position and adding plenty of quality and experience to the squad.

He also confirmed to The Celtic Star that plans are afoot to play some matches at Celtic Park during the break in the mens game later in the year for the World Cup.

More immediately though, more Celtic supporters than would otherwise have been the case will have the chance to see Pamela Tajonar’s home debut on Sunday as Celtic have used some much needed common sense to bring forward Sunday’s kick-off time from 2pm to 12noon so that there is no clash with the Celtic v Hearts match at Celtic Park which has a 3pm kick-off. The initial kick-off time didn’t chase at all as the mens game was initially scheduled for Saturday afternoon but as Hearts are in action against Zurich is Switzerland this evening that resulted in the Scottish Premiership match getting pushed back 24 hours.

So it’s Airdrie to Celtic Park in 75 minutes and that is possible…

Two Hoops games on one day, who is up for the challenge?

The always excellent Cynic Women have been doing some research on our new goalkeeper…

“As widely predicted after her appearance against Partick Thistle last weekend, Celtic have announced the signing of new goalkeeper Pamela Tajonar. Welcome to Pamela and read on for a wee thread…”

And here is Pamela Tajonar’s Welcome to Celtic interview…
