Ange Postecoglou ‘close’ to Spurs appointment

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou is close to sealing a deal to join Tottenham Hotspur. The North London club are searching for a new manager after Antonio Conte left by mutual consent in March.

Spurs supremo Daniel Levy wanted a manager that could reinvigorate the club and bring an attractive brand of football. This search eventually led him to the Celtic manager.

According to The Athletic, Tottenham will step up their pursuit of Ange with a deal expected to be completed in the next few days. Ange will likely be confirmed as the new Spurs Head Coach, ending a successful and meteoric time at Celtic.

There was a feeling yesterday that he was saying goodbye. With two seasons and five trophies at the club, there was a feeling that we wouldn’t enjoy Ange forever. Now, it appears that he is set to depart and will do so with our best wishes.

It is a blow to Celtic fans but yesterday’s Treble success was the perfect send-off to Ange. The Australian is 57 and has had to bide his time to get to Europe. The Spurs job is certainly one of the most appealing in the English game given their vast wealth and facilities. However, the adulation that was directed from the stands at Hampden (and since he arrived) will not be replicated in London.

It was a privilege to have Ange at the club for two seasons. He goes with our admiration and thanks.

  2. The EPL is irresistible. The money, the 10 or 12 big games a season, the money and…the money. The overblown hype. Every Saturday is Super Saturday on satellite telly and every Sunday is imaginatively Super Sunday, even when it is Bournemouth Vs Southampton in front of 9000 fans. Spurs are spurs and will always do a Spurs. Best you can hope for 4th, acceptable 6th or above. Only 3 teams can win it another 4 scrapping it out for Euro places, 13 or 14 playing for a draw every single week as 35-40 points allows you to survive another year. The gap between the top two grows every year. And is not going to get better any time soon. It will soon be Qatar vs Saudi Vs UAE. But it is the best league in the world and millions of wee middle class people in China, Dubai, and other Eastern parts pay their 40 quid a month gleefully. While punters at home can’t afford a programme unless you are a posh person with loads of dosh to afford the tickets. Next season Man City will win it (what a surprise) Liverpool will come second 14 points behind and one of the other big teams will be 8 behind Liverpool. Spurs will be 9th or 10th and Ange will head back to Aus 40 million richer and try to block the year out of his mind… Ah there is always the money.

Another Australian, Kerry Packer the man who ruined cricket, once said “There is a bit of the whore in everyone”. Myself, I prefer to see silver trophies decked in green and white ribbons.

  4. Not my best wishes he was always going! Even if a crystal palace wanted him having lived in Australia for years I know as anyone who has does!! ” Epllll mhate” total sychopants even ones that don’t follow football! But like how they are with that joke monorchy here also never met people so in need of relevance of validation than an Aussie living so far away creates that need more I suppose. Anyway the man showed us zero loyalty! like when other have left I will not give them another thought!! I don’t care what he does there or anywhere! All about Celtic if by chance he doesn’t interview well he can’t come back either!! We can’t be having that nonsense!
