‘Bombscare’ Boyata is a ‘disgrace,’ says Chris Sutton

CHRIS SUTTON has labelled Dedryck Boyata a ‘disgrace’ for his behaviour towards Celtic. And the former Celtic striker, now an outspoken pundit on BT Sport, reckons that the Belgium World Cup player should be grateful for the opportunity that Celtic gave him.

On social media, Sutton made five points that pretty much sum up how the vast majority – if not all – Celtic fans will be feeling today.

Here’s Sutton’s five remarks.

1. “Dedryck Boyata should be grateful Celtic gave him the opportunity to play.”

2. “While he has some good attributes he has been a bombscare at times.”

3. “He is a disgrace.”

4. “Celtic need to get him out of the building ASAP.”

5. “Important thing is to get a quality centre half in now…

Brendan Rodgers in particular must feel completely let down by a member of his squad that has won back to back Trebles.

Boyata was well out of the picture when Rodgers took over and other than one outining on the plastic pitch at Kilmarnock he was nowhere near the Celtic first team for the first six months or so that Rodgers was in charge.

Had Rodgers not shown faith in him and re-introduced him to the side in the Scottish Cup tie against Albion Rovers after the winter break then his career would have gone in a very different direction.

Rodgers blocked a move to Fulham last week and reports coming out of Celtic were that the player and manager had had a good chat on his return from his post World Cup holiday ironically enough in Greece, and that Celtic hadn’t given up hope of getting him to sign a revised and improved offer.

Rodgers must have thought he had an understanding with the player and looked to involve him on Saturday at Tynecastle then play him in Athens tomorrow.

The second booking of the qualifiers picked up by Kristoffer Ajer made the manager’s decision look sound – Boyata could play and help us get to the Champions League Group stages then the player if he wanted to leave could go to either Italy or Spain.

That’s the situation that Rodgers understood on Friday morning on his way to work. It all changed with he arrival of Boyata’s agent in Scotland.

Boyata is finished at Celtic – Peter Lawwell will now make sure that he is out of the door as soon as possible. He would never be accepted by the support again even if he did decide to stay.

Wanting away is one thing. Stabbing in the back the guy who saved your career to get your move is something completely different.

Sutton is right, Boyata is a disgrace.

But don’t blame Brendan.

  1. Boyata is a walking Disgrace Who should be given a good kick in the arse to help him on his way. Mind you it will be interesting to see just how many clubs actually look to sign him after the “Bad Back” stunt he pulled when he did not get his own way..
Me thinks he might find it hard to get any club to take a chance on such a deadbeat. HH
