BR-Exit – ‘I spoke to Brendan,’ Broony’s farewell conversation with Rodgers

SKIPPER Scott Brown played his part in the dramatic winning goal at Tynecastle last night, his perfect cross dip into stoppage time found Odsonne Edouard who calmly stroked the ball into the net with the gathered Celtic fans just behind and the celebrations were awesome to say the least.

Broony spoke to the media about the events of the week, with Brendan Rodgers using sticks to take the big bucks on offer at Leicester City. Money talks in this game and Celtic’s £2.5m a year salary comes nowhere near the £7million he’s managed to get in the East Midlands.

Rodgers might have been good for Celtic but it seems we have had a fairly positive impact on his earning capacity going forward after providing him with the platform to re-build his reputation after Liverpool.

“It’s been very hard losing a top quality manager. But it’s a top quality manager who has come in,” Broony said,

“We are all going to miss Brendan. He’s been fantastic for this club.

“For me, the club wasn’t in a great place two-and-a-half years ago. We were winning the league, but look at the football we were playing.

“Brendan re-energised the whole club. He took us in to the Champions League these last few years as well.

“For me personally, it was sad to see him leave. But we have another great manager coming in who will build on what Brendan has done and hopefully keep it going until the end of the season.”

Referring to the quite excellent banner from the Green Brigade at Tynecastle last night Broony understands the emotion involved in Rodgers leaving when he did.

“There is always going to be a lot of stick but for me he was brilliant on a personal level and that is what really counts.

“For me, he was unbelievable. He realised that I still had a couple of years left in my legs and he put a lot of faith in me and a lot of trust.

“I spoke to Brendan. I wished him all the best. He’s been unbelievable for me. I was written off this season, the season before, the season before, the season before….

“There is never a good time for a manager to leave but he has left us in a great place. We are eight points clear in the league and we have 11 games left.

“We have won seven trophies out of seven since he came in and now we need to make sure that we need to keep going on for him as well.

“But the gaffer has been there and seen it all before. He’s won trophies here and that’s why we brought him back in.”
