Celtic are reportedly in advanced talks over the sale of Yang to Norwich City. The Championship side have been keen on the South Korean talent in recent weeks after selling Borja Sainz to Porto for £14.25m.
According to Sun Sport, talks are at an advanced stage in a transfer that will severely deplete Celtic in the wide areas.
Luis Palma departed this week for Lech Poznan with Marco Tilio also leaving for Rapid Vienna. Celtic are already in the market to strengthen on their right flank given Nicolas Kühn’s €19m departure to Como.
It would be somewhat surprising if Celtic allowed a player to depart without a number of players in the building. Brendan has confirmed that Benjamin Nygren has been signed to play as a midfielder so he is not expected to be Kühn’s replacement. It remains to be seen whether Celtic advance in their pursuit of Michel-Ange Balikwisha from Royal Antwerp, who has been linked for some time.
There is no mention regarding the fee for Yang but you would expect it to be in the region of £5m. Celtic should be mindful of Norwich’s hardline approach last summer, which saw Celtic pay £9m to sign Adam Idah on a permanent basis.
Yang has made 65 appearances for Celtic, scoring 7 goals and assisting on 9 occasions. The winger is a frustrating watch at times given his lack of consistency. The Cup Final display wasn’t particularly impressive but then again, his performance against Newcastle was neat at the weekend, showing what he is capable of.
Yang is a player who showed great improvement last year, and epitomises the type of squad player you need to he able to bring in to make an impact later in games, or the occasional start, and give the first team players a rest when required.
Selling him shouldn’t affect the plans to sign a top quality replacement for Kuhn, but slightly more tricky finding somebody else who can slot in to the BR system and be comfortable doing it as a backup.
Time running out.
Totally agree. Unless the bid is substantial I wouldn’t be parting with a player who is improving steadily, as we have seen already in pre season, and is still an important squad player. Especially when we have yet to replace the wingers who have already departed.
More effective and more comfortable on the right hand side. However, i doubt he is going to push for a regular first team spot.
Hopefully we include a substantial sell on percentage and/or buy back clause
