Celtic’s Man of the Match still the trolls whipping Bhoy

Liam Scales was Celtic’s Man of the Match at Ibrox, and has been our best defender in recent games. So why the online hate from our own supporters?…

Liam Scales is one of our most scrutinised players, and receives more – much more – than his fair share of criticism from some of our supporters, sometimes it’s fair comment but mostly not so much and the Irishman is simply an easy target. For instance if Kieran Tierney makes an error, nothing much is said but if it’s Liam Scales then he gets it in the neck.

We always seem to need a scapegoat, and with Greg Taylor gone and Adam Idah escaping the treatment he’s received tomorrow, that mantle has been passed to Liam Scales who can’t seem to do anything right in the eyes of the more over critical element of our support when they take to the internet.

Admittedly I’m not Liam’s number one fan, and In my opinion Auston Trusty deserves to start alongside Cameron Carter Vickers, but Brendan favours Liam in the left sided centre back role, and you have to agree as going by recent performances the manager’s judgement had been spot on.

And that before we realised that Trusty was carrying an injury and is now sidelined, possibly needing an operation.

Liam was our man of the match at Ibrox by a county mile. He looked calm and composed at the back, both in the air and on the deck, dealing with any threat the home side had to offer. He had a terrific game.

I’d go as far as to say that Liam has been our best defender in recent games, and our goals against record is testament to his performance.

That still hasn’t stopped the snipers having a go, and you can only ask, why?

And the best of luck to Adam Idah at Swansea, a player who contributed much more than some with short memories would have you believe. Greg Taylor too looks a much better player to some now he’s no longer here. Is it a coincidence that our midfield is underperforming and we can’t create chances – or score goals, maybe because that extra-man in ‘midfield’ is no longer at Celtic.

Taylor had that inverted full-back role down to a tee and he’s a bigger miss than some imagined. Be careful what you wish for.

Well done Liam Scales for an outstanding performance for Celtic.

I enjoy writing about this wonderful football club and hopefully will continue to do so. I’ve always been a keen writer and initially started this a hobby. My ambition is to one day become as good an author as my fellow Celtic Star colleagues.

  1. I’m all the decades of following Celtic I have never understood the mentality of so called ‘supporters’ who need a whipping boy. It says more about their disturbed personality than it does about the players. It was Peter Grant when I first starred to go to Celtic Park, for years it was James Forrest, more recently, Greg Taylor, Idah and Scales. These people to the job for ‘The Rangers’ fans and the Daily Record. Who does well when ‘your own’ get at you.

  2. Have always said that Liam Scales is a very solid centre half for Celtic and contrary to the article above I prefer him to Trusty. Also been arguing for the last few years that Greg Taylor was a big part of our success but always seemed to be a whipping boy (would his childhood allegiance to theRangers have something to do with it? – certainly proved himself in a Celtic jersey and for me is, and will be, a big miss).

  3. I hate knob end that take a dislike to a player then the ” monkey see monkey do” clowns join in . I have never slagged a player in the hoops why would you?! Plenty times I told idiots to shut it especially with wee jamesy being their whipping bhoy, this was when he was just in the team to, but plenty continued up until recently, idah probably want out cause of these halfwits to, its a million times worse now because of the weirdos on social media! Arseholes the lot them basically they crave validation in relevance utter weirdos none are real Celtic fans not ever in my book

  4. Liam is a solid player. Often digs us out of a self inflicted mess. I haven’t read any ‘hate’ as you describe it. Criticism maybe. Hate? Get a grip. I think you’re making mountains out of molehills. He does have an undeniable tendency to slow any attack down. For example – why does he feel the need to put his studs over the ball, stop and take an age looking around
each and every time he gets a trundling pass from CCV? That’s not hate. Tierney was rank yesterday by the way. Along with most of them. Mentality monsters my arse. Chicken shits more accurate.
