One of the more recent transfer stories in the past few days has been the emergence of previous January reports that Celtic were keen on making a move for Christopher Scott of Bayern Munich. Ghanasoccernet.com claimed that a move was in the offing, with the Hoops having to pay a nominal £250,000 sum for his services. That story was also reported on The Celtic Star on 4 June which you can read here.

News has since made it’s way from Germany in the past 24 hours that the Bundesliga champions have triggered a one-year extension on the attacking midfielders contract, meaning Celtic would be required to pay significantly more if they were still willing to prise him away from Bavaria.

Sky Germany correspondent Florian Plettenberg has taken to social media to give an update on the Scott/Bayern mini-saga to confirm that the heirarchy in Muchen have decided to extend the contract of the youngster for another year.

Translated in English, it reads:

“News Christopher Scott: Bayern has pulled the unilateral option until 2023. But Scott wants to leave and has already made a change request. Düsseldorf (Allofs) absolutely wants him. Discussions have already taken place. Scott can imagine moving to Fortuna. #TransferUpdate”

With news that not only has Christopher extended his stay at Bayern but that talks are already underway with another club, it looks increasingly likely the pacey attacker won’t be plying his trade in front of the thunderous atmosphere of Paradise next season – under the floodlights of Champions League night’s.

Someone on the social media thread did ask Florian if Celtic was going to Parkhead and his response was quite revealing:

The journalist then replied that he did not know of any reputed deal or interest to take the midfielder to Celtic Park this summer, saying:

“Was never mentioned. We have reported on talks that have actually taken place. But Scott doesn’t want to go abroad. He intends to stay in Germany.”

So there you have it folks; it looks like the promising star won’t be heading our way after all. The signing of Scott would have been one definitely within the remit of what Celtic are trying to achieve under Ange – young, hungry, emerging talent that can be polished and resold at a later date, subsequently progressing both at home and in European football.

I’m sure Ange has a few irons in the fire, so not to worry!
