Former Celtic hero opens the scoring for Scotland

Former Celtic hero Kieran Tierney scored his first goal for Scotland tonight as Steve Clarke’s side took a 1-0 lead over Poland. The game was scheduled as a friendly due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine meaning that the World Cup play-off semi-final was postponed.

John McGinn’s excellent cross from a free-kick was powered into the back of the net.

It is surprising that this is Tierney’s first goal for his country. However, given that his competition includes European Cup and Premier League winner Andy Robertson, KT has adapted to a more defensive role.

The left-back made over 170 appearances for Celtic, winning five league titles and three League Cups and Scottish Cups during his time whilst enjoying hero status with supporters as being ‘one of us’. The former Celtic defender left the Scottish Champions in the summer of 2019 for a fee in the region of £25m, becoming the most expensive Scottish export. You have to imagine that Tierney, who has made over 80 appearances for Arsenal, is worth over the £50m mark.
