Further Butland snub just confirms what most of us already know

It wasn’t so long ago that Jack Butland was tipped for an England call up by both theRangers supporters and the SMSM, especially at the Daily Record.

They were the only ones though as the rest of us all knew that despite being a decent keeper, Butland had next to no chance of a call up to Gareth Southgate’s side.

Everyone and their granny knows that Southgate, like every other English manager in the past doesn’t rate Scottish football. Just like the overwhelming majority of the English footballing fraternity, he turns his nose up at our game.

That’s not a slight on Southgate, it’s just the way it is. Our game is not the best, we know that. So it should come as no surprise that one of the top nations in European football are reluctant to send their scouting staff across the border.

That was further confirmed just the other day when Southgate brought another keeper into his squad due to injury. That man was 21 year old Burnley keeper James Trafford. The fact that Southgate sees the England under 21 goalie as a better option than the experienced Butland tells its own story. At least four keepers are currently deemed better than Butland in the eyes of the England manager.

But try telling that to the deluded theRangers supporters and the SMSM. They are collectively still raging about it, and are still crying about it on a daily basis. The honest truth is that super Jack isn’t as good as they think he is, in the eyes of the man who matters most, the guy picking the England team.

I Witnessed my first Celtic game in 1988 and have attended when I can ever since. Growing up in the 90s I witnessed Celtic at their lowest, and now appreciate the historic success we enjoy today. I enjoy writing about this wonderful football club and hopefully will continue to do so. I’ve always been a keen writer and initially started this a hobby. My ambition is to one day become as good an author as my fellow Celtic Star colleagues.
