Josip Juranovic: “Many clubs like the winger of Celtic FC,” Transfer Expert with 1.7M followers

Media reports from England over the weekend linked Josip Juranovic with a move to Chelsea while both West Ham and Manchester United have also been mentioned. Spanish media were also touting the Croatian World Cup semi-finalist with a transfer to Barcelona this week after the reported interest in the Celtic defender from last summer from Atletico Madrid resurfaced. Now Italian media are linking Juranovic with a move to Torino who today’s report claims has had preliminary talks with Celtic about a January deal for the player.

Gianluca Di Marzio, the Sky Sport international reporter and football transfer expert has 1.7M followers and his sport this morning highlighted one Italian club who has already made contact with Celtic but the report stresses that many clubs are interested in The Celtic right back.

Gianluca Di Marzio reports: “Croatian full-back Josip Juranovic could have Serie A in his future: many clubs like him, Torino continued his advances with Celtic,”

“Croatia defeated in the semifinals by Argentina by an out-of-this world performance from Lionel Messi, now play for third place to play against the defeated side in the France-Morocco semi-final, while the market is already going crazy with the winter transfer window approaching.

“Let’s talk about Croatia because one of the suspects who could move as early as next January – and perhaps right towards our Serie A – is a member of the Croatian national team. Specifically, the full-back Josip Juranovic, who many clubs have had the opportunity to appreciate in this World Cup.

“Torino likes Juranovic and beyond…Many Italian clubs have already asked for information on the right-back of the national team coached by Zlato Dalic, who is now aiming for bronze at the World Cup in Qatar.

“Torino has already shown interest and has had contacts with Celtic. For now, only preliminary talks, but the possibility of seeing him leave as early as January is more concrete than what will happen for other players.

“Juranovic is a regular starter in Dalic’s national team, he actively played Euro 2020 last year and these Qatari World Cups as a protagonist. He took over former Sassuolo Vrsaljko in this role. This season, so far, he has played 15 games for the club, including 6 Champions matches, where he scored 1 goal and provided 1 assist.”

You would imagine that these “preliminary talks” are all about interested clubs making their position know to Celtic. It always seemed likely that Josip Juranovic and Celtic looked at this season in the summer and agreed that the optimum time to look at a transfer would be after the player played in both the Champions League and World Cup, the two biggest stages in football.

And Ange Postecoglou has already given the support a heads-up that top players will be sold and the money brought in will be used to strengthen the squad going forward.

The third factor is the arrival of the Canadian right-back from the World Cup, Ally Johnston on a £3m deal from Montreal. That also hints at a Juranovic move.

The player could decide to wait until the summer but that seems unlikely and would probably suit no-one.

The Celtic support, with unparalleled faith in Ange Postecoglou’s decision making, appear to be content to buy into this plan but – and Michael Nicholson should be well aware of this – only if Ange gets his wish to re-invest in the squad as he looks to build a side strong enough to compete in the Champions League.
