SPFL Hold Vote On Moving Winter Break, As Clubs Handed 3 Options

Last night, the Scottish Government announced that football stadiums will be restricted to just 500 fans for a three week period commencing on Boxing Day. A number of clubs have subsequently issued statements calling on the SPFL to move the winter break forward, so that as many fixtures as possible can be played in front of larger crowds.

Celtic, Hibernian, Motherwell, Livingston, Dundee United, Heart of Midlothian and St Johnstone have all publicly expressed their desire to see the winter break brought forward by the SPFL. Meanwhile, Aberdeen, Dundee and St Mirren have stated that they are in discussions to find a suitable way to proceed.

According to the Daily Record, the SPFL have now responded by giving Scottish Premiership clubs three options to vote on.

  1. Clubs can vote to start the break after the round of fixtures on Boxing Day
  2. Clubs can back stopping the season for three weeks before Sunday’s round of fixtures
  3. Clubs can opt to pause the season as planned after the Edinburgh derby on January 3

Each SPFL member is thought to have until 5pm to respond to the options listed above, when an announcement is expected to made on how the League will progress.

  1. Celtic fans complaining to say they want the winter break brought forward so they can get to see the game against Rangers after the break, what a joke what they really mean is they want the game at a point when their injury worries are over and they may have signed a couple of new players and then blame Rangers who want to play the game now. Didn’t hear them saying we want the season to end in 2019, no they wanted it ended due to covid so they could get a tainted 9 in a row???

    • The vote to end the league was unanimous, meaning that the board at Ibrox also voted for it (after the pitch was dug up). There have been 10 clubs asking for the break to be moved forward, are they all trying to help Celtic? I’m more concerned at the unfairness of the reverse fixture being played in front of a full Ibrox and now at an empty Celtic Park for fairness as fans mean a lot more than Jota being fit. Particularly now that Kyogo is back. But whatever suits you. The vote won’t be decided by Celtic or Rangers

      • Oh my! It never crossed Robert’s mind that this would be the reason the newest corrupt outfit from Govan would vote otherwise!
What an absolute idiot this guy is!
The most manipulative corrupt outfit in the history of the game in Scotland yet has the audacity to accuse Scotland’s only big club of underhanded dealings?
Of course it would allow injured players a chance to get fit! But not only at Celtic!
Clubs have all already complained about too many games being scheduled in December. So this could solve several problems.
Could it be the new club are running scared and want every possible advantage the can get? With St. Mirren unable to field a team of any strength, do they want to make sure they catch them while they are down too?
It couldn’t be that they see the advantages of no fans in Paradise for the game between Scotlands bigest club and Scotlands youngest club could it?

You really have to question if these idiots have enough brains to blow their noses!

    • That would be a second nine in a row. The only active club in the country to have achieved this as it happens.
Looking for another SFA helper here so that you get to play your game in a stadium which is resembling your head? Empty?
      Running scared are you?
Don’t worry, you’re SFA will be seeing to it that your new club will be getting several “honest mistake” decisions going your way for the remainder of the season. A few phantom calls within three feet of the penalty area will be awarded during close call games.
Don’t worry! The SFA will always look after their new establishment club the same way they did the now extinct club.
Speaking of “tainted nine in a rows” was it not the same SFA who deliberately delayed the signings of players for Scotland’s big club until the now extinct club were able to reach the points advantage they needed to in order to equal a genuine nine in a row?
Wasn’t it the same SFA who last season, gave one rule for the new club and another for Aberdeen, St. Johnstone and Celtic, Scotland’s only big club, during penaltys handed out for positive COVID results.
Clearly you are worried. Yet you know your SFA will be there to assist the newbies as much as possible.
Did you ever go to school or have you always been uneducated?

    • I thought the comment from Rangers last year was we don’t want to play without fans. They then won the league without them and thought this is for us.

    • glass houses and all that mate, agree in part with your comment. Maybe Celtic might think we will be in better shape with injured players back, and maybe new signings in, you MIGHT be right. But on the flip side, your club maybe think with no fans In ( 500 ? ) Celtic park.Celtic with a seriously depleted squad, MAYBE they think they will have a far better chance of winning if it was played on the 2nd. Get over it, dry your eyes, and we look forward to the game when/ if it happens. Merrry Christmas.

  2. David McCarthy of the daily record. Has just admitted the rangers are acting out of self interest.

Unfortunately David McCarthy has used all premier league teams to prove it.

What David fails to say is other clubs self interest is just that self interest.
But the rangers self interest is detrimental to all of Scottish football . And would give them an unfair advantage again. CINCH for example

    • Tam all clubs act out of self interest mate, in this country and most others, they might act in collusion with other clubs at times, but they are always acting out of self interest. Doing the best for their club would be another way of looking at it. Merry Christmas.

    • Yes tam but the spl should keep the cinch money from rangers and divide it up between the other clubs they think they are scottish football and want to run the game to suit them the way they did years ago

  3. Kyogos wee toe on

First if all Robert, it’s good to see you checking in on a proper football news site and not the usual nonsense and lies that your own media drip feeds your good self and the likes.
Secondly, what happened to all your confidence of walking the league this year and big ange being gone for Christmas? Your post reeks of a desperate man who is afraid of his great team facing a full strength Celtic team. And god forbid that we add more players to our squad. Couldn’t your team also add to their squad? The answer to that as we both know is no. You’re broke and you know it. Squeeky bum time Robert!
