After Celtic FC Women’s 2-0 victory over Partick Thistle yesterday, Head Coach Elena Sadiku gave an update on two players who have been missing from the squad…

Both Aislin Streicek and Grace Courter haven’t played for Celtic since the Halloween game against Hamilton Accies. They looked like solid players whenever they got their chance on the pitch, but since the Accies game, they were apparently “unwell”, according to the manager.

After the Thistle game though, Sadiku gave an update to Claire from The Cynic Women, stating that both players have LEFT Glasgow after struggling to settle at the club. So we will never see Streicek or Courter don the Hoops again.
Whatever reasons may have caused their premature departure, we could speculate on, but this is a massive hit to Sadiku’s squad. Recently, we’ve barely been able to fill a bench, with most spaces being taken up by academy players. With the hit of losing two solid players, an argument could be made that Celtic are now in a really difficult position, particularly going into games against theRangers, Glasgow City, Hibs and Hearts.
This is even more concerning considering the Sky Sports Cup semi-final tie against theRangers in February. Although that may sound like a lot of time, Celtic are going to have to recruit heavily in the winter if they are to stand any chance, so we can only hope that scouting has already been going on behind the scenes (no laughing at the back).
That introduces an entirely new problem though. If Sadiku were to leave in the summer, which many are predicting, if her current contract is really set for expiry, then the players brought in for the winter would come in to fit her system. If she was to be replaced by a new head coach, who would likely have a different playing style, then would we simply show the doors to the newcomers if they don’t fit?

Either way, it could be wise for Celtic to take the risk. It’s better to compete this season than to be thinking that far ahead. We clearly need new personnel through the door, and the winter window can’t come fast enough.
The winter window is set to open on 4 January 2026, with it remaining opening until 5 February. The winter domestic loan period will last from 6 February to 5 March 2026.
