UEFA’s political banner is a start, now they must ‘Show Israel the Red Card’

UEFA last night showcased their hypocrisy to the entire world through a post on their official social media sites which gave their nod of approval to a message aimed in the direction of Israel over the genocidal atrocities they are guilty of committing on the Palestinian people.

UEFA like a lot of prominent organisations are forcibly being pressured into highlighting the horrendous crimes inflicted by the Israeli regime, when before they were all too willing to turn a blind eye.

The message in question was produced in the form of a banner before kick off in last night’s UEFA super cup clash between PSG and Spurs in Udine Italy calling for an end to the killings of children and civilians in Palestine, and UEFA gave it their full seal of approval, an act which turned more than a few heads, especially amongst the Celtic supporters.

And not surprisingly given the governing bodies stance on our own club regarding the matter in recent years, and the fines that they have imposed on Celtic as a result of the Celtic Supporters campaigning on behalf of the Palestinian people.

Our supporters after all have had their reputation stained on several occasions for daring to speak up for the oppressed population of Palestine who are suffering from the brutal effects of Israel’s genocide. Fine after fine has been imposed on the club, who themselves have done little – or nothing – to challenge the accusations, and letting the good reputation of the Celtic supporters be regularly called into question.

Last night’s show of support from UEFA is however welcome, but it also show them for the hypocritical bunch that they truly are. Hopefully this is the first step to the governing body banning all Israeli clubs from European competition.

The Green Brigade started the ‘Show Israel the Red Card’ campaign and that quickly spread around the world with supporters in all continents taking part in a global fan protest that originated over in the North Curve at Celtic Park.

UEFA should refund the money for the fines they wrongly imposed on Celtic and this money should be donated to a charity trying to bring essential aid to the Palestinian people in Gaza. Those preventing that aid getting through are evil.

More importantly UEFA should now do what the Green Brigade and football supporters around the world have asked them to do and that is SHOW ISRAEL THE RED CARD. It’s better late than never.

An ordinary everyday Celtic supporters hailing and still residing in Govan in the shadows of the enemy. I’m a season ticket holder. I Witnessed my first Celtic game in 1988 and have attended when I can ever since. Growing up in the 90s I witnessed Celtic at their lowest, and now appreciate the historic success we enjoy today. I enjoy writing about this wonderful football club and hopefully will continue to do so. I’ve always been a keen writer and initially started this a hobby. My ambition is to one day become as good an author as my fellow Celtic Star colleagues.

  1. Let’s just get something perfectly clear, politics has nothing to do with football so leave Israel alone and every other country and focus on playing football

Politics/people’s opinions are everything to do with football and the world in general.
I wonder if the celtic board will now ban uefa from attending parkhead like they did with the green brigade.

  3. Green brigade done it without our clubs approval thats what green brigade are outwith Celtic_fc_1888 maybe why they get so many away tickets yes our club has been used i remember ira cans going the stadium but that soon stopped when it was proved not all cans where for it

I agree totally owen, I’m not remotely intersted in the politics held by any football fan, Celtic being my club, I refuse to be preached to by an obsessed minority of fans who seem to believe that their opinion remotely counts more than anyone else, the calls for action to be taken against Syria, Iran, lebanon etc…must have missed that. Sick to death with these people who spend much too much time in their bedrooms colouring in their latest tifo looking for purpose in life. Read recently where some celtic blogger advocated not signing an israeli…so it has come to this…condemning the club across the city for actually practicing the very same hate…but against catholics. I would give up the club I’ve supported all of my life before sharing it with those who would so openly hate.
