View from the supporters bus, ‘I hope you were watching, Mr Lawwell’

‘I hope you were watching, Mr Chairman’…

Brian Clough’s line in the ‘Damned United’ after his Derby County side were beaten by Leeds and he pleaded for funds to be made available to compete. Brendan Rodgers will, this afternoon, feel the same. A makeshift team with Eboue Kouassi, Leigh Griffiths and Jonny Hayes started against the aggressive Edinburgh side and the team never got in the game.

‘I hope you were watching, Mr Lawwell’…

This week has produced murmurs of discontent, speculation and gossip but the bottom line after what is a poor week for the club is that we need more quality. The board need to act to keep the manager happy, and in turn produce quality on the park.

There was a clear air of discontent amongst the support at what was perceived as a clear lack of application from some players on the park, culminating in our second defeat to Hearts in our last three visits.

This isn’t a radical call to sack the board, or (as some fanciful fans with their friends in high places have) calling for Brendan to go. Instead, this is a plea to continue writing Scottish football history and invest in a manager that has revitalised the club. Give him the trust to bring his players in, so he’s not left with an inexperienced pool of players going into the biggest game of our season.

Complacency kills. Celtic are at risk of letting this creep into our ranks unless it’s arrested and amended.
