‘When I heard Celtic wanted me I wanted to come here,’ Bolingoli

BOLI BOLINGOLI reckons that the noise he left behind in Vienna, means nothing to him as he’s convinced he make the right decision in leaving Rapid for a move to the Scottish Treble Treble winners.

The £3million signing was praised by his new manager yesterday after the 7-0 thrashing of St Johnstone at Celtic Park. Neil Lennon also praised his other new full-back Hatem Abd Elhamed who impressed for an hour before limping off with nursing his thigh.

“Hatem got a dead leg against St Johnstone, but we’ll just have to monitor him. I thought he was outstanding and Boli had a great game as well on the opposite side,” Lenny told the official Celtic site.

Bolingoli’s previous manager Dietmar Kuhbauer recently admitted that the 24-year-old left-back will be a huge loss to his team and the Rapid Vienna Sporting Director Zoran Barisic reckoned that Bolingoli should not have signed for Celtic but should have moved to England.

Boli though disagrees with that, saying that he’s convinced he’s made the correct move coming to Scotland to play for Celtic. And yesterday’s wonderful atmosphere inside Celtic Park must have re-enforced that particular view for the Belgian.

“If I am playing Champions League football it shows I was right to come here. I don’t care what people outside say, I just want to play football.

“I am very happy I made the move to Celtic. We are a huge club in the world and when I heard Celtic wanted me I wanted to come here,” Bolingoli said to the media, as reported by Scottish Sun.

“I had good times at Rapid, but when you get this opportunity you can’t turn it down. It was the right move to take that next step in my career.

“I wanted the move to happen, but I couldn’t think about it and I had to keep working hard. When Celtic made their move I said yes straight away. It is the right move for me at this time and I can’t wait to show people what I can do.

“Getting to the Champions League would be great, but we have to do well in the domestic competitions too. People can talk, but I just focus on my football. It is a good decision and no one can ever say they are disappointed to play for this club.”

Bolingoli is almost certain to play in Romania on Wednesday night when Celtic take on Cluj, who have been noisy to say the least, since they got through in Tel Aviv last week to set up the meeting with the Scottish Champions.

The latest Romania to mouth off is Dorin Goian who used to play at Ibrox and he reckons that Cluj have nothing to fear facing Celtic. Aye, right. Boli wasn’t impressed either.

“Maybe they don’t see a lot of our games, but people can say what they want. We will show them on the pitch. We want to win both of these games to make the last qualifying round because these games are vital for the club.

“We are happy to be in the next round as it is so important for us to make the Champions League. The early signs have been good and we’re on the right way to doing that.

“We try and play the right way and are a club that wins most weeks. We want to keep that up and win things this season. You want to win every game and I am motivated to play and win every game.

“I started out as a winger so I can play there if the club needs me, but I prefer being a full-back. As long as I am playing, I don’t mind where.”
