£10m-rated defender offered bumper new deal to fend off Celtic interest

BEN DAVIES has been offered a new deal at Preston North End as the Championship side look to fend off pre-contract interest from the Scottish Champions. The Lancashire Evening Post are reporting that Davies is one of four players to have been offered a ‘significant’ pay increase to agree new terms.

The left-footed defender would be free to sign a deal with the Scottish Champions in January should no new deal with Preston be agreed. the 25-year-old central defender has been the subject of interest from Celtic and AFC Bournemouth with Preston knocking back an offer from the Cherries – with Alex Neil valuing him at £10m.

Although, should no deal be agreed, he would be free to discuss terms for next summer with Neil Lennon’s side. With over 120 appearances in the Championship with Preston, Davies is likely to want a challenge in a new setting and Celtic can offer him more in terms of European football and the opportunity to compete for trophies.

Celtic are likely to need defensive options come the summer with Shane Duffy’s loan deal ending as well as Kris Ajer likely to be the subject of further transfer interest. Davies would be a good signing but now it appears that he has a decision to make.
