ONE – SATURDAY 14 JANUARY 1905 – Celtic lose 1-2 to Dundee at Dens Park. On a very hard ground, Celtic made the mistake of playing in rubber soles on a hard pitch and have to take it in turns to change footwear. Peter Somers scores Celtic’s only goal.
TWO – SATURDAY 14 JANUARY 1928 – Jimmy McGrory scores a phenomenal tally of eight goals in a 9-0 demolition of Dunfermline Athletic at Parkhead. Alec Thomson scores the other, but the man behind it all is Tommy McInally. It is a pity that bad weather restricts the attendance to a meagre 4,000. Referee Tommy Small of Dundee says after the game that he was in danger of losing count.
THREE – THURSDAY 14 JANUARY 1965 – Celtic supporters are given a much needed boost with the news that Bertie Auld is to return from Birmingham City for a fee of £12,000. Bertie would later claim that he already knew that Jock Stein was coming back.

FOUR -SATURDAY 14 JANUARY 1967 – No-one knows it at the time, but this is the first appearance of the team which will in little more than four months’ time win the European Cup. Today they come together to beat St Johnstone 4-0 at Muirton Park in front of a large crowd of 19,000 fans. Jimmy Johnstone scores two goals, Steve Chalmers one and Bobby Lennox one.
FIVE – SATURDAY 14 JANUARY 1995 – Celtic 2:1 Kilmarnock. Willie Falconer and a last minute John Collins penalty to give Celtic only their second win in 16 league games. Afterwards the Celtic manager Gordon Strachan said: “The crowd were anxious after last week’s defeat by Clyde in the cup and we were anxious. We shouldn’t have to score three goals to win a game of football and we have to sort it out. Individual errors are killing us at the moment. But, while there can be question marks about the defending, there can be none about our commitment and general play.

SIX – SUNDAY 14 JANUARY 1996 – Pierre Van Hooijdonk crowned a dramatic second-half fightback as Celtic kept their title dream alive at Pittodrie. Two goals in the space of five second-half minutes transformed a match the Dons had largely dominated until that point. The strikes by John Collins and Hooydonk extended the Parkhead side’s unbeaten run to 17 games.

SEVEN – THURSDAY 14 JANUARY 1999 – The day Celtic won The Brandy Trophy, beating Xerez 1-0 with Henrik Larsson scoring the winner. Celtic made the two-and-a-half-hour journey into Spain’s sherry territory worthwhile with a victory over an industrious third division side. Dr Jo Venglos actually got worked up himself – a rare occurrence – when he complained vociferously to the fourth official that Xerez (the team is spelt differently from the town, Jerez) had used more substitutes, namely four, than had been agreed.
EIGHT – SATURDAY 14 JANUARY 2006 – Celtic beat Kilmarnock 4-2 at Celtic Park with the goals coming from Nakamura, Maloney, McManus and Zurawski as Roy Keane made his Celtic debut.

NINE – SUNDAY 14 JANUARY 2007 – Celtic travel to Tynecastle today and win 2-1 in a televised match with goals from Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink and Jiri Jarosik after Hearts had scored first. They are now 17 points clear at the top of the League.

TEN – SATURDAY 14 JANUARY 2012 – Dundee United are beaten 2-1 at Celtic Park with Gary Hooper and Victor Wanyama scoring for the Hoops to make it a remarkable eleven wins in a row as the pressure continues to mount on title rivals Rangers on and off the park. The win put Celtic two points clear and the rest as they say is history.
