1888 not out! Celtic FC – one club since 1888, anyone for cricket?

“As we mark 130 years since the formation of the Club in 1888, it is important that we continue to celebrate what makes Celtic so special,” says the Celtic text on You Tube just below this video. There are some very special guest appearances in this latest video from Celtic, including Tommy Burns’ grandchildren.

Celtic FC – One Club since 1888 signals the start of the season ticket renewal campaign and with the club now back in the situation where there is an extensive waiting list for season tickets, then the campaign is bound to be a huge success.

Celtic’s marketing team have had some notable successes with their Christmas marketing videos – last year for the Brendan Rodgers book and the Invincibles DVD and before that for Scott Brown’s book.

There is a nice sub-text below the new video – that Celtic FC have always been the same club, implying perhaps that others haven’t? Probably, but there remains a feeling that Celtic just never did enough to hold the cheats to account. Compare and contrast with the global attention cheating in cricket has received over the past few weeks.

It was left to the Celtic supporters – not the club – to lead the campaign to set out the facts concerning the liquidation of Rangers in 2012 and the creation of a new club. Yet Neil “Same Club”  Doncaster, visited Celtic Park to meet a hand-picked (by Celtic) group of supporters to explain that the titles won by the old Rangers were moved over to the new entity by two SFL executives (both Rangers supporters) who failed to keep proper records and then that league was merged into the new SFPL.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if Celtic made a video about all of that!  Or is that not cricket?
