The left side of our team namely the defence, is beginning to pose us a small problem that was all too apparent in the match against Aberdeen at Pittodie yesterday lunchtime.
Greg Taylor stands at 5ft 7in while his rival for the role Alexandro Bernabei is slightly smaller at 5ft 6in. They aren’t the strongest either.
While height is not detrimental for football talent it can hold you back if you’re a defender, and both Greg and Alexandro have that same problem.
Teams target that area because they know it’s a weak spot. It’s been quite noticeable in the past few months and especially the last few games. Greg has done superbly in the last year or so and hasn’t let the side down, but maybe he’s got as far as he can talent wise?
Alexandro is the same, while great going forward he is rather flawed defensively. And that maybe not cause us too many headaches domestically but it will in the Champions League. We will be exposed at the highest level.
It’s been well documented that Brendan is in the market for a left back and the reason is there for all to see. Let’s hope we bring in the quality that’s needed in that area. Kieran Tierney has of course been mentioned and he would be an ideal solution but it remains fanciful, especially if Arsenal are looking at a sale rather than a loan deal.
Yet we shouldn’t forget that Mark Lawwell and his recruitment team will have options available to the Celtic manager. Hopefully that’s an area that we can improve on ahead of the transfer window closing.
🚨TRANSFER TALK: @FabrizioRomano with some different information on Kieran Tierney:
🎙️“Despite links with Newcastle earlier this summer, it was never something concrete or close from what I heard. I think they’re looking more at centre-backs than at full-backs at this point.” 🏴… pic.twitter.com/XBOMONnLcJ
