New Frimpong deal at Bayer Leverkusen is great news for Celtic

Former Celtic full-back Jeremie Frimpong has signed an extension to his Bayer Leverkusen contract keeping him at the Bundesliga club through to 2028. Jeremie has impressed at the German side and has admirers from many big sides in Europe. He was heavily linked with a move away from Bayer in the summer window but nothing concrete materialised.

Celtic are believed to have a hefty thirty percent sell on clause on any profit made by Leverkusen when they do finally sell the Dutch international on. Similar to the one we agreed with Man City when we signed the young right back. Man City indeed made a great profit as did ourselves when he sold Jeremie to Leverkusen in 2021 for a sum believed to be around £11 million.

With clubs such as Manchester United and Real Madrid believing to be monitoring him closely, it’s perhaps only a matter of time before he eventually leaves for one of the top sides in European football. This new deal therefore is even better news for Celtic as it will further inflate Frimpong’s transfer value as the length of his contract has been extended. The same of course applies to the likes of Reo Hatate and Matt O’Riley who both signed contract extensions at Celtic last week amid a large degree of interest over the summer in both players.

We know that Celtic knocked back a bid of around £10m for Matt O’Riley but now his transfer valuation could have doubled, especially if he turns it on in the Champions League this season.

Jeremie Frimpong is now likely to be rated in the £50 million bracket so Celtic would make a tidy sum if he eventually does moves on from Leverkusen, proving once more that our transfer strategy is working wonders.
