Report links Celtic with interest in signing Lawrence Shankland

Celtic are reportedly considering a move for Hearts striker Lawrence Shankland. The 28-year-old has been in fine form for Hearts this season and with just eighteen months remaining on his deal with the Tynecastle outfit, speculation is rife that the Scotland Internationalist is set to move on.

According to a report from HITC, Celtic are considering a move to sign Shankland in January as Brendan Rodgers looks to strengthen his front line. Shankland has been one of the standouts in the league this year, even scoring at Celtic Park with an excellent header.

The report states that Rodgers is considering a move for the player but could face competition from a host of English sides as well as Rangers. Hearts want to secure Shankland on a new deal so that they can fend off interest at this stage but it is expected that the player will want to make a step up at this stage in his career.

The Celtic manager has already said that he rates Shankland so there could be some interest there. However, there is a question as to whether he would represent the quality that the manager spoke about requiring as he looks to improve European results. With that said, he could represent a viable domestic option and be well placed to convert chances that are created in the wide areas.

In 75 appearances for Hearts, Shankland has scored 46 goals and assisted on 7 occasions. This record is mirrored at both Dundee United and Ayr United, 40 goals in 74 appearances at Tannadice and 61 goals and 24 assists in 73 appearances at Somerset Park. Shankland is the main man at Tannadice, sporting the armband in Craig Gordon’s absence and

It seems unlikely that Celtic would move for the player given that turns 29 this year who would play second fiddle to Kyogo. The Scottish Champions have been linked with Bojan Miovski from Aberdeen along with Mathias Kvistgaarden from Brondby.

No No No, God No! Not good enough, will not improve the team, will have no impact against the better teams.

    • Hes a proven scorer and a leader. Hes well worth a buy. If hes not good eniugh then neither are our defenders who he always scores against. Better option than Miovski

  2. Shankland is a proven striker. If he gets service from midfield and wingers he will clean up.
If the quality of service is not there he will still net a few but not as prolific a marksman as might have been the case.with quality support. One thing for sure,Hearts must make clear we want a pretty penny or no deal.
