Veteran Celtic winger James Forrest has pulled out the Scotland squad after suffering an injury…
The 33 year-old winger was in line to feature in the upcoming Nations League fixtures against Croatia in Zagreb tomorrow night and then Portugal at Hampden on Tuesday evening.
Forrest was missing from today’s training session
However, the Celtic legend took no part in Scotland’s final training session at Lesser Hampden today before the squad flew out to Croatia’s capital in what will be a real concern for Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers.
Following Greg Taylor pulling out earlier this week, and now James Forrest this morning, only Anthony Ralston remains as the solitary Celt in the squad for these crucial set of fixtures for Steve Clarke.
It is still unclear what the suspected injury is for Forrest, who if fit will play a massive part in the Hoops congested fixture list from now until the festive season.
Steve Clarke will be disappointed
Former Kilmarnock boss Steve Clarke will be disappointed he has been dealt with another injury blow.
Forrest’s injury is added to the never ending list of first team regulars who are missing. Kieran Tierney, John McGinn, Scott McKenna, Lewis Ferguson, Aaron Hickey, Nathan Patterson and Angus Gunn are some of the names absent from this camp.
Meanwhile, the Scotland manager is under huge pressure. His side have only won once in 14 matches, and that came against Gibraltar in a friendly prior to the disastrous European Championship campaign.
Struggling to find a win
Struggling to see where the next win will come for Scotland, 39 capped Forrest would have been one of the senior players that Clarke could rely upon heading into a crucial camp. Instead, Jamesy will have to wait a considerable while yet to reach a landmark 40th appearance for his country.
