The Hoops have been tracking the Sarpsborg man this month with a view to potentially bringing him to Glasgow if a deal could be struck with his club. It had been reported previously that the Nordic side wanted £7 million for their star man to part company.
Now Sky Sports’ Anthony Joseph – who has been keeping a close eye on proceedings – has confirmed that after initial discussions the Celtic Board have made a bid for his services. Joseph didn’t mention how much that particular bid was at this moment in time but only that the opening gambit had been made by the Celtic board.

Jota has already signed
The Scottish Champions have already brought Jota into the club, bringing him back after an 18-month exodus in the Saudi Pro Legaue with Al-Ittihad and then Ligue 1 in France with Stade Rennais. However, Brendan Rodgers did say previously that the club would be looking at one, possibly two wide-men to come in this January and aid the team’s assault domestically and in Europe.

Latest striker linked is Randers FC frontman Tammer Bany
With Kyogo Furuhashi now plying his trade for Jota’s former employer Rennes, it is odd that the club haven’t moved first of all to seal a deal for another centre-forward. Earlier today there was a report linking us with another Danish attacker, Tammer Bany, who plays for Randers FC in his native homeland. Nothing else about Mathias Kvistgaarden has emerged yet and many will be wondering what is happening on that front.

The Orjasaeter bid suggests that Celtic are perhaps doing their succession planning for the summer transfer window, when there will no doubt be considerable interest in Nicolas Kühn, who’s season has been fantastic thus far, in terms of both numbers and performances. With more games in European football to come, Kühn could showcase his skills to a much wider audience once again – continuing with Aston Villa tomorrow night.
Here’s that update from Anthony Joseph though in the meantime:
