‘We just lacked that little bit of pizzazz,’ Lenny

NEIL LENNON will be annoyed that the 100% domestic record this season was ended by Aberdeen this afternoon in the goalless draw. It will be especially frustrating as it was Lenny’s first match back at Celtic Park since he replaced Brendan Rodgers just under a fortnight ago.

Rodgers got off to a better start in his first home game with a 3-1 win over doomed Fulham but he’d already suffered an away defeat at Watford. Swings and roundabouts then.

Hopefully the widespread anger at the manner in which Rodgers left Celtic will subside and we can move on with a favourable analysis of his tenure. Respected for what he achieved but maybe not loved in the way he was.

Lenny though is now the manager and he’ll be annoyed at dropping two points.

“The performance was ok. We were a little bit flat, a little bit leggy but I understand that,” he said afterwards.

There was always going to be a little bit of a lull and you could see that. I think it’s more psychological than anything else. We just lacked that little bit of pizzazz.

“We’ve had three really difficult games to negotiate in the last 10 days and we’ve come out of it unscathed.

“We’ll get them together again, get a couple of days’ rest and then move forward,” Lenny said.

We’ll analyse things we could have done better but physically we just looked a little bit off today.

“We take the point, still unbeaten since the turn of the year. It could have been better, there’s no question about that, but these players have given me everything.

“I’d have loved to have won the game and been 10 points clear but you can’t have everything and they’ve given me everything so far.”

Neil Lennon also confirmed that Craig Gordon wasn’t on the bench today as he’d had an injection in his knee during the week and should be fine for next weekend when Celtic travel to play Dundee at Dens Park.
