Celtic make desperate late move for La Liga striker

Celtic could turn to another former Leicester City star in their bid to replace Adam Idah. The Scottish Champions are scrambling in an attempt to replace the Irishman, who departed earlier today for Swansea City.

Having been linked with Jamie Vardy earlier in the window, the Scottish Sun reports that Celtic are eyeing a late move for Kelechi Iheanacho from Sevilla.

The 28-year-old was linked in January as a potential replacement for Kyogo and eight months later, Celtic are back in for the ex-Man City striker.

With a year remaining on his deal with the La Liga side, the attacker is reportedly free to leave, which could set up a reunion in Glasgow’s East End. Celtic find themselves in this position having been rejected by Kasper Dolberg, who is nearing a return to Ajax for €10m.

Iheanacho became a key figure under Rodgers, who was credited with giving him more responsibility in attack alongside Vardy. The Nigerian striker’s breakthrough came during the 2020–21 season, when he enjoyed a prolific run of form, won Premier League Player of the Month, and helped guide Leicester to their first-ever FA Cup triumph. He also scored the winning penalty in the Community Shield that followed. Across seven years at the club, Iheanacho made 232 appearances, scoring 61 goals and assisting 36 times.

What a day for Celtic. The board have reached a new low refusing once again to offer a proper price for a striker. They have made themselves the laughing stock of Scotland

It’s desperate stuff! If Board heads don’t roll after this shambles then fans really do have to consider withdrawing their financial support for what is looking more and more like a club run by a cartel of profiteers. What a humiliating disaster they have created.

If Rodgers is any kind of man, he’ll jack it in and walk away. The fans will not blame him this time because the Board has demonstrated very publicly their utter disregard for him as a manager and his aspiritations to take the club forward. If he stays then he can forget any move to a better club next summer because his reputation will be in tatters once we exit the Europa League early, which is almost certain now.

  3. I’m out! If you can’t see this is deliberate then more fool you!

Easy as I am overseas but this window has shown the contempt we, as a fan base
, are held in by the club!
