Save Our Season – Send for the Green Brigade

We need to enhance the atmosphere, now more than ever. It’s time to bring back the Green Brigade…

Sunday’s defeat at Tannadice further compounded the woes of the Celtic supporters, further diluting the morale around the entire club.

On the park we are devoid of quality and confidence which has all but derailed our hopes of winning the title, whilst off the park we are run by a bunch of incompetent shysters who are hell bent on destroying the entire structure of our club, plunging morale to an all time low.

One such example of the entire dire situation is the atmosphere, or more accurately the lack of atmosphere at Celtic Park in match days this season, ever since the club picked their fight with the Celtic ultras.

Anyone who attends Paradise on a regular basis will know what I’m talking about. The once famous Celtic Park atmosphere is almost non-existent, even on European nights the Celtic Roar was conspicuous by its absence, and the only real vocal action is in defiance at those who are hurting our club from within.

That is in a big way down to the unfair and unjust sanctions imposed on those who occupy section 111, the individuals that are of course that well known supporters group the Green Brigade.

Whatever your opinion on the so called ‘Ultras’ they are not only responsible for highlighting and supporting good causes, they also generate terrific atmosphere at Celtic matches. They bring song, they bring colour, and more important of all it encourages the rest of the stadium and the players on the pitch.

It’s not all about the Green Brigade of course, as other supporters do their best to generate a positive atmosphere, but due to the on going treatment of the Green Brigade, it’s created an environment of uncertainty and negativity in the stands, severely diluting the Celtic Park match day experience.

The club have been exposed misleading the support in regard to why the Green Brigade are banned, and it’s time for them to do the right thing for once and reinstate them with immediate effect.

The Green Brigade should be allowed entry into the next home game which is against St Mirren on 11th April, the last game before the split. It’s not only the right thing to do, but it will give the supporters a huge lift, and bring some much needed colour and atmosphere heading into a vital run of fixtures that could well decided our title fate.

We have seven matches to win from seven remaining Scottish Premiership games. Four will be at Celtic Park – against St Mirren and post split the Rangers, Hearts and probably Falkirk.  Away from home we will play Dundee next, then post split games at Motherwell at Fir Park and Hibs at Easter Road.

Martin O’Neill needs to find a way to win these games. His task will be slightly easier with the Celtic support there at the games in full, delivering 100% backing for the team. That means bringing the Green Brigade back NOW!

I Witnessed my first Celtic game in 1988 and have attended when I can ever since. Growing up in the 90s I witnessed Celtic at their lowest, and now appreciate the historic success we enjoy today. I enjoy writing about this wonderful football club and hopefully will continue to do so. I’ve always been a keen writer and initially started this a hobby. My ambition is to one day become as good an author as my fellow Celtic Star colleagues.

  1. “send for the green brigade” You thinking they can play up front and solve the goal scoring problem?

  2. I’m sorry, but I do not miss the green Brigade one bit, nor do huge numbers of Celtic fans. G.B. have proved time and time again that, given opportunities to return, they are so arrogant and inflated by their own self importance that they are incapable of change. The 26,000 + fans who attended, against advice to stay away and boycott our team, are the Celtic fans. Admittedly, it was quieter at first, but the atmosphere soon picked up, with the entire crowd signing Celtic songs and shouting on the team. I thought G.B. were brilliant when they first came on the scene but the mood music changed over time. I don’t know if they were hijacked by people with different agendas, but they no longer offer anything positive, just more fines; more flares; more fireworks; more complaints, more greeting, whinging and general sweety-wifeing!

  3. Completely unbelievable Celtic park without the GB is hollow without any atmosphere.I am 76 and followed Celtic from the age of 6,and have been in the park with less than about 4 Thousand supporters in there, it was a terrible place to be absolutely,we had to light fires to keep warm due to the lack of crowds, when the team were poor for most of that time, the players could hear what supporters were shouting about them, and also the crowd could hear the players shouting at each other So bring back GB it’s wonderful to hear them in full voice and how they follow the Team home and away even to Europe for most games

  4. Must agree with first two comments. Going to far with complaining about board. Celtic Star should at times told GB were they were going wrong at times, also why did CS not inform us who ate the leaders of GB?
