Former Celtic favourite makes last minute loan move

FORMER CELTIC defender Filip Benkovic has made a last minute loan move to Cardiff City. The Croatian defender was made available by ex-Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers but has had to make a move to the English Championship in order to get game time.

After a season with Celtic, Benkovic appeared to be ready to make the jump into the first team with the Foxes. For one reason or another that has failed to transpire and now the defender will make a move to Wales.

There had been hopes that Benkovic might have made a return to Celtic Park but after Christopher Jullien was signed last year and Shane Duffy this year, no deal ever transpired. During his spell at Celtic, he played in 27 games netting twice and playing his part in the Treble Treble season. Benkovic was a fan favourite for his solid defensive displays and comparisons were made to Virgil Van Dijk.

Another season in the English Championship is a waste for a player of Benkovic’s capabilities. Hopefully the move is a success for him and he gets the chance to ply his trade at a bigger club.
