Video: Happy Birthday to cult hero, Georgios Samaras

Georgios Samaras turns 36 today and it is an excuse to wheel out some of Sammy’s best bits in a Celtic jersey. The talismanic striker was a cult hero during his time in Glasgow, often frustrating yet inspiring the Celtic support. The Greek Internationalist joined Celtic on-loan from Manchester City in 2008 before sealing a permanent switch later that year, after winning his first league title.

Samaras left the club in 2014, having played 249 games, scoring 74 times. In his time at the club, he won four league titles, two Scottish cups and one League Cup.

Samaras Sunday at Ibrox and various big performances in Europe have reaffirmed Samaras’ legacy of being a big game player, here are some of his best moments in the Hoops.

  1. Big sammy an absolute LEGEND!! Pretty inconsistent but if he didn’t have some sort of flaw he wouldn’t have been at parkhead. Loved him as a player got rid of him far too soon. Happy Birthday big fella 🍀✊️
