We haven’t seen anything yet to suggest that John Kennedy should be getting the Celtic job on a full-time basis, so he has to be thinking about what comes next for him.
He is highly rated as a coach and it’s expected that he will go on to have a career as a manager, but the timing and the situation isn’t right for that to happen at Celtic Park.
He’s been linked with a few jobs in Scotland that have opened up in recent years, so it’s easy to see him entering the conversation at Aberdeen after Derek McInnes finally left the club this evening.
It would be an attractive job for Kennedy as their budget ensures they are always going to be pushing for third spot at least, while he could even trouble the top two places if they go on a run of form.
The dust is still settling at Pittodrie and it’s not clear what their plan is to replace McInnes, but there’s been plenty of chat on social media this evening about Kennedy replacing him:
John Kennedy should probably cut his teeth as manager at another club before ever being considered for the Celtic job, if the McInnes rumours are true, Aberdeen would be a good club to start at.

Aberdeen could do worse than to consider John Kennedy for this role… thoughts? https://t.co/MwYQ5nB8Qm

That Aberdeen gig could be a big job for Kennedy to cut his teeth on. Know a lot of people don’t have time for the big fella but there’s an ability there. He wouldn’t have lasted the Rodgers era if he wasn’t able & the fact he was offered a job at Leicester speaks volumes.

Would be very surprised if John Kennedy is not quickly linked to Aberdeen.

It’s also interesting to see Neil Lennon’s name being mentioned as it also looks like the kind of role that he should jump at if it’s offered to him, but it will depend on what Aberdeen decide to do.
It’s hard to see Kennedy retreating back into a coaching role at Celtic after being the manager for so many games so he will need to leave eventually to take the next step in this career, and this looks like an attractive option for him.
