Former Celtic ace vindicated for exit as he signs a lucrative new contract following an impressive season

There was plenty of intrigue about Inter Miami as they made their MLS debut last season, especially when they had to put together an entire playing squad from scratch.

They had some wealthy backers and David Beckham is one of the owners so big signings were expected, so it’s fair to say there were underwhelmed fans when Lewis Morgan arrived as one of their major additions.

He had always shown flashes at Celtic but he was never going to become a regular starter, while a loan spell at Sunderland wasn’t quite as productive as he hoped.

It turns out moving to Miami was a brilliant move for him, as he’s been awarded a new contract after an MVP season with the new franchise:

He’s outshone the likes of Gonzalo Higuain who really should be their star man but he’s struggled since arriving from Juventus, while Morgan’s five goals and five assists in twenty games is a decent return.

Anyone who even slightly follows the MLS will know a lot of the rules are tough to get your head around but it’s been confirmed that Miami have used some of their targeted allocation money to allow this extension to happen, so it looks like he’s been given a healthy pay-rise for his efforts too.

We are seeing more Scottish players go to America and a lot of them are seeing success, so it’s positive to see that Morgan has made the most of his opportunity since leaving Celtic.
