Celtic may struggle to keep loanee this summer after manager’s admission

Most of the loanees this season haven’t really done enough to suggest a permanent move is deserved, but you could make an exception for Moi Elyounoussi.

The Southampton man has been inconsistent over his two seasons in Scotland, but he’s also shown that he’s capable of producing a bit of magic.

Injuries have been a concern and you can see that he struggles with confidence every now and then, but he’s still a player who improves the team when he does play.

The biggest problem with getting him to stay permanently would be the potential Premier League transfer fee and wages that it would cost, while it also sounds like he could have a chance to return to Southampton next season.

The Daily Record reported on some comments from their manager after he was asked about the forward in a recent press conference, and it certainly sounds like he’s in their thoughts as they plan for next year:

“We have a few players in our mind. You can be sure that every player who is on loan we try to follow.

“We try to have the latest information about his performances, his physical condition at the moment.”

That can change very quickly and it’s easy to see a situation where he returns for pre season before being made available again, but any Celtic future would depend on what the new manager thinks.

He’s scored thirteen goals and added six assists this year so that’s a lot to replace, but it looks like Celtic will need to start planning for life without him
